How lucky are we hill walkers, to have David’s enthusiasm, good humour, expertise and inspirational encouragement to lead us through the most amazing Wicklow walks.
His love of the hills is infectious. His in-depth knowledge of the walks is so reassuring and one feels in safe hands at all times. I loved his constant refrain that we must enjoy the hills, the colours, and the sunshine and the fabulous vistas — and that no matter who or what , he would get us all home and sound. His gentle encouragement to get “fit through food ” is certainly on my list of resolutions.
Thank you David.
I have been hill-walking regularly under David’s leadership for almost a year now, and I could not wish for a better leader. He is a very experienced hill-walker, with a comprehensive knowledge of walks for all levels of experience in the Wicklow Mountains. He gives sound advice on equipment & clothing, which is tempered by his own experience. He is highly organised – when David says the walk is departing at 1030 hours, he doesn’t mean 1035! He is very positive and supportive of weaker members when the group is of mixed ability, giving them lots of encouragement. I have no hesitation in recommending David for safe & enjoyable hill-walking, and I wish him well in his new venture.
David Crawford’s obvious love for and enthusiasm about hill-walking in Ireland’s most beautiful locations is infectious. His in-depth knowledge of all hill walks, both well-trodden and those less well known, makes him an ideal guide and mentor. When the above is taken in tandem with David’s emphasis on safety and concern that even the least fit walker gain the maximum enjoyment from his or her outing. I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone interested in benefitting from healthy exercise with the bonus of wonderful views.
Thanks to David Crawford I have returned to recreational hill walking in the last year. It has proved to be an easy route to that feeling of health, fitness and bon-homie that makes us all feel good. David leads all of our walks which are organised with meticulous care and carefully chosen both to match our abilities and to ensure that items of interest or scenic beauty can be pointed out. After a year , I am capable of more challenging walks and am undoubtedly fitter. The formula comes down to…a great leader……great walks……and a great time!
I would like to express my thanks to you for the planning and organisation in getting us out and about on the Dublin/Wicklow mountains. It has been a lot of fun and a great way to get some healthy exercise. I look forward to the next walk and to seeing some more of the beautiful countryside.
Not being a ‘hill walker’ I was intrigued when I first heard about the walks, but having completed nearly all of them I am ‘hooked’. It is a great way to exercise and socialise at the same time. I was impressed by the organisation, with nothing left to chance. Whether one is an amateur or an experienced walker it’a a great fun and entertaining day out. I am looking forward to the next one!
David Crawford has been the Leader of our walking group. He manages the Group, produces the walking routes and provides very clear directions. He is very conscious of weather conditions, suggests suitable equipment for each outing, brings emergency support/survival equipment. When you walk with David you get a great understanding of the surrounding environment and the importance of sustainability.
Just a note to thank you for a most wonderful adventure to Mallorca. I am still enjoying the afterglow of the four days spent trekking. From before we left on Thursday 9th May to our return on the 14th, I was on a busy cosseted roller coaster.
I was one of four new people to join a well established group and was made to feel very much at home. I know that Fiona, Paul and Gerry felt the same. The organisation, camaraderie, choice of accommodation, restaurants, planning and care did not happen by accident.
I never thought a fall on a mountain could be so enjoyable until three capable men ran to my attention, administered a magic gel and strapped me up. The evenings were full of bonhomie and banter and the mountain treks were exhilarating, ranging from 3 to 4.5 hours each.
Many thanks for making me feel so welcome.
It was with a little trepidation I joined the walkers signing up for the walking holiday to Mallorca – my level of fitness! Several evenings in the weeks before departure, I did some brisk walking around Killiney hill and beach which in the end, I think helped me.
The hotel was charming and the choice of walks perfect. It was wonderful the way each walk was so different and built up gradually to the final impressive climb. I know that did not happen by accident and was impressed by, as most of us relaxed by the pool, you were reading up on the next day’s adventure. Each day had its own special charm and challenge. For me personally, I had a great sense of achievement at the end of each day at having survived and more than that, I enjoyed nearly every minute! You got our hearts beating at an impressive level, given that the majority of the group were like mountain goats – I am excluding myself here! I have learnt a few important things – “keep going” and adjust your stride on the steep bits.
The mystery of what you carried in your heavy backpack was unfolded during the holiday as you produced what was needed for all eventualities. Your care and attention went far beyond the walks as you very kindly organised dinners and acted as our chauffeur on many occasions.
I would love to join you again for challenge, fun, company and beautiful walking.
